Day 30

Calendar: the special helper puts up the date, adds to our weather graph, and counts days at school.

Agendas: Students wrote reminders

1. Spelling test tomorrow
2. Lunch forms due tomorrow
3. Book orders due tomorrow
4. Math test tomorrow
5.  Math booklet homework in agenda - due Monday
6. Cursive letters T and P, G and H was to be finished last week please complete if not done

Parents please sign/initial your child's agenda to show me that you have read it, when that is done they will get a sticker to decorate their agenda each time.
Unit of inquiry:
 Today we reviewed the fact that media conveys messages to us in different forms. We then examined different pictures and discussed the message that was portrayed in each as well as what clues help us to discover the message. Students were then given an advertisement and had to decide what the message was: 



Language:

Students in grade one worked on a journal entry, they had to pretend they were a leaf through the four seasons. They had to write a sentence for each season and then draw a picture for each season:


Students in grade two reviewed persuasive writing for their Ontario Writing Assessment.  Today I modelled how to brainstorm for a persuasive advertisement. We discussed the important things needed such as a name, catchy phrases, target audience, things to make you want to buy the item:


Students were then sent back to their desks to brainstorm/invent a new toy. They created mind maps to help them organize their ideas. Tomorrow they will begin writing their good copy.

Students  finished writing their good copy of their pumpkin page. Students worked on their writing skills by completing a assignment about a pumpkin. Students had to write five sentences about their pumpkin. 
1) Their pumpkin's name 
2) The colour and size of their pumpkin
3) How many teeth their pumpkin has 
4) an adjective describing their pumpkin
