Math:
As a class we worked on solving word problems using subtraction and addition.
Students were given the problem; There are nine people on a train at the next stop four more get on, how many people are on the train. Students couldn't simply just give the answer but had to work on giving a addition sentence. Ex  9 + 4 = 13 students then had to also show their work of how they got this answer (by drawing objects). Once this was solved students were then told at the next stop two people get off the train.
Students in grade 1 - practised showing numbers two ways, either by; word name, numeral, tally, or objects.
Students in grade 2 - practised solving word equations pertaining to addition and subtraction.

Agendas: Students wrote reminders

2. spelling test Thursday
3. No school Friday
4. Food Drive

Parents please sign/initial your child's agenda to show me that you have read it, when that is done they will get a sticker to decorate their agenda each time.

Unit of inquiry:
Today students worked in partners on cutting out pictures from grocery store flyers and gluing them under two columns: local food or international food:

Language:
Students in grade one: Reviewed what an adjective is, as a class we thought of 8 adjectives to describe an apple. Students were then sent back to their desks to work on 8 describing (adjective) words for ice-cream (noun).

Students in grade two:
Worked together on adding detail to sentences. As a class we started with he sentence
The sun rose.
We decided this sentence was boring and didn't tell us much so we said we should add more. First we had to add to adjectives:
The bright, hot sun rose.
We said this was better but more of a level 1 sentence. So we decided to add more we added a how to our sentence.
The bright, hot sun rose up.
We said this was better but more of a level 2 sentence. So we decided to add more we added a where to our sentence.
The bright, hot sun rose up in the sky.
We said this was better but more of a level 3 sentence. So we decided to add more we added a when/why to our sentence.
In the morning the bright, hot sun rose up in the sky.
We decided that this was a level 4 sentence!

Grade two's will be required to write sentences with at least two adjectives and two of the following; who, what, when, where, why, how.
