Math:
Today students in grade one continued to work on number words. They are learning to spell numbers 1-10. They also worked on one to one correspondence in relation to numerals and counting.
Today students in grade two worked on their estimating skills. Students were given handful of counters and they were asked to estimate how many they thought were there. Students then recorded their answers and began counting the counters when they got half way through they were able to change their estimate.
Agendas: Students wrote reminders
1. Spelling test tomorrow
2. Letter about Japan pictures - 12 in total all small sized, shelter, food, clothing, transportation, leisure and other
3. Summative Assessment outline sent home - how to pre-pare. Parents read over the letter and brainstorm ideas and topics with your child. You could make a mind map of your brainstormed ideas and send it in with your child so they can work on their project.
Parents please sign/initial your child's agenda to show me that you have read it, when that is done they will get a sticker to decorate their agenda each time.

Unit of inquiry:
Today students learned about about India. Each student was given a short paragraph on a topic that they had to record on a graphic organizer for clothing, food, transportation, leisure, and other.
Language:
Students in grade one worked on a fall writing activity. They were given the prompt My favourite thing about fall is.... They were required to write 2-3 sentences using capitals and proper punctuation. Once they completed this they glued their writing into an acorn template.
Students in grade two worked on how to brainstorm for different assignments they are given. Each student was given a different topic and they had to brainstorm 6-9 points about their topic.
We also read chapter 3 of our novel study Chocolate Fever! Henry Green (our main character) began to break out in chocolate spots. Students were told they had to pretend to be the teacher Ms. Kimmelfarber and write a letter to Henry's mother about what they were seeing. Ask your student to tell you what has happened in the last 3 chapters that we have read.
