Feb 24th

students brought home in their agenda a family tree project, one page is set up for them to fill in. The second page students are to make a family tree but not in tree form. For example a family rainbow! It is due back to school March 3rd.

Feb 23rd


Students are encouraged to wear a pink shirt tomorrow in order to show support of our Anti Bullying day! We will be attending an anti-bullying workshop.

Worked on a journal entry with 6 detailed sentences.

Students in grade 2 - Began working on the rough copy of their mechanical toy explanation. This is practise for our OWA assessment on a explanation of a created robot toy.

As a class we counted the Edges/Vertices/Faces of the follow shapes; cube, cone, square based pyramid, rectangular prime, triangular prism, triangular based pyramid.

Tomorrow we will construct these shapes into 3D form.

Unit of inquiry:

Today we started the discussion of our new UOI - Cultures are cool.  We discussed what the word culture meant to us. Then we watched a video outlining the ideas of cultures' meaning;

Afterwards we discussed what a celebration/tradition was. As a class we made a mind map of different ones we knew of.

Happy 100 Days !!!

Students are encouraged to wear a pink shirt on Wednesday in order to show support of our Anti Bullying day! We will be attending an anti-bullying workshop. 

Students are asked to bring in a picture of a holiday/celebration/tradition that is important to them. They will be asked to show their picture on Monday and discuss what it is. This is for our new UOI about how Cultures are Cool!

Feb 19th

The Notice from the Parent Guild:
Another movie night is fast approaching! It will happen on Friday, February 26 from 6:30-9:30 with free child care from 6-6:30! Kung Fu Panda 3 (PG) will play from 6:30-8:30 and then a dance will take place from 8:30-9:30! Tickets are $10 and include popcorn, water, and a treat. Pizza will also be made available for $2/slice. Forms have been handed out and will need to be returned by Monday, February. 19th

Poems- Today Mr. Foster and our grade one class combined for poem performances. Students did a great job! I was super proud of everyone, great memorization/actions/expression when saying their poems

We also finished our summative presentations 

Language- As a class we read the story 'Stellaluna' which related to the IB profile 'Open-minded'
Students were asked what open-minded means to them and completed a worksheet that related to this profile.

Feb 18th

Please keep in mind lunch orders, after school care and movie night ticket orders are due tomorrow.

Poetry in class competition will be held tomorrow. Please ensure your student has the poem memorized with expression and actions. 

Students in grade one wrote their Ontario writing assessments today 

Grade twos began preparing for their Ontario writing assessment by brainstorming ideas about a mechanical toy. They will need to write and explanation about this toy. 

Summative assessment presentations began today:

Re-registration packages due tomorrow.*Thursday, February 11 *is Valentine’s Spirit Day so be sure to wear your Valentine’s day colours! *Friday, February 12* is a PD Day therefore no school for students. *Monday, February 15* is Family Day therefore no school for students. March lunch forms, movie night forms, and January aftercare money are due by Friday, February 19 by 3:30 PM.

We read chapter 4 of our novel study Freckle juice and students wrote a journal response as to what they thought Andrew might do next after finding out Sharon sold him a fake freckle juice.

students were very silly today and could not settle down enough to complete our daily five rotation so instead we read quietly to our selves.

Math:
Students in grade 1 - 
practiced sorting 3D shapes based on the shape of their faces, if they rolled, and their corners.

Students in grade 2 -
worked on learning the faces, corners, and vertices of a squared based pyramid and a rectangular prism.

Unit of inquiry:

today we continued our new UOI reviewing the definition of a simple machine.  Today we reviewed the 6 types of simple machine and drew a picture of a real life object for each one. Then we looked at real life objects and sorted them into the category of simple machine type.

today we continued our new UOI reviewing the definition of a simple machine.  Today we learned what a wheel and axel  is; A wheel with a rod, or axle through its centre. It is used to lift or move objects. Tomorrow we will build toy cars.
