Day 5 - Sept 15

We have been experiencing some inconsistencies with the Internet and it has come to my attention that my blog post did not appear last night. My apologies!

The Calendar: the special helper puts up the date, adds to our weather graph, and counts days at school.

Math: Today we continued our sorting and patterning unit. Students reviewed sorting rules apply by
1. shape
2. size
3. colour
4. direction

and that these are called attributes. Students in grade 1 focused on sorting by one of the above attributes in their math curriculum books. I encouraged the students to try and pick the more difficult one of direction. Students were encouraged to sort their animals by which way they were facing left or right:

In grade 2 students focused on sorting by two of the above attributes in a hands on learning activity from the math curriculum. Students learned the term sorting circle. Students first used the sorting circle to sort the objects by one attribute (ex. colour) then they put the circles together and inside the over lap put the object of another attribute that matched (ex. shape) take a look:

Agendas: Students wrote reminders
1.Spelling test Sept.18
2. bbq Thursday
3. Study for spelling test

Parents please sign/initial your child's agenda to show me that you have read it, when that is done they will get a sticker to decorate their agenda each time.

Please feel free to practise this at home.

Gr. 2 . Students were required to invent a new candy. They had to brainstorm ideas for their candy and then write a Persuasive Advertisement to entice people to buy their candy.
