We then took a thermometer and stuck it in a glass of cool water we recorded the temperature. We then boiled water and poured it into a cup. Students in grade one: learned about silent consonants and vowels we read the story Silent Letters Loud and clear. We discussed how silent letters are seen not heard and that you must memorize/practise these words in order to learn their spelling. We then made a list of some words we know with silent letters. Afterwards we put our knowledge into action by completing a worksheet on silent letters.
