Students in grade 1 -
reviewed telling time to the hour. Students used their clocks to show me different times. We reviewed how the minute hand is always at the twelve when we are telling time to the hour. Students then worked on reading analog times and writing them in digital.
Students in grade 2 - practised telling time by quarter and half hours. Students reviewed using their clocks they made and then completed work in their math makes sense books.
Agendas: Students wrote reminders
1.No School Friday - PD Day
2. Math homework due Nov 9th
3. Spelling test Thursday
4. No school Wednesday - students are encouraged to visit their local cenotaph to pay respect. Houses points will be awarded for those who participate in Remembrance Day assemblies.
5. Students are all bringing home the story for our Christmas concert. Each student has been assigned a paragraph that they and a few others must memorize.
Parents please sign/initial your child's agenda to show me that you have read it, when that is done they will get a sticker to decorate their agenda each time.

Unit of inquiry:
Today we reviewed what the three main focuses of media are 1) to inform the audience 2) to persuade/convince the audience 3) to entertain the audience. We also reviewed fact vs. opinion definitions. We also reviewed what point of view is. Today students learned about gimmicks and how advertisements use them to persuade us to buy their product. We played a game on the Internet making an ad for cereal boxes using different gimmicks. Students really enjoyed learning the process about making an advertisement and how gimmicks work. http://mediasmarts.ca/game/co-cos-adversmarts-interactive-unit-food-marketing-web

Language:
Students in grade one: reviewed asking and telling sentences. Students reviewed proper punctuation for asking (question mark) sentences and telling sentences (period or exclamation mark). Students were given a package where they read sentences and put the proper punctuation at the end. They also learned about how the word I is a proper noun. They then corrected sentences that had the word I used in correctly in the sentence. Students who did not finish this package brought it home for homework.
Students in grade two: began working on a graphic organizer, they are designing their own donut. We brainstormed different words we can use for our advertisement about the donut. They have to choose the product's name. Catchy phrases to gain the reader/listener's attention. They have to describe the size, colour, taste of the donut. Students will be working on this for a few days.
