picked 3 colours and took a poll of ten students to find out which the class looked better. Students then graphed their results and answered questions based on their data.

Students in grade 2
Looked at a picture of a fish tank and collect data about the different types of fish (whiskers, spots, stripes) They then placed these results on a bar graph and answered questions based on their data.

In both grades we have begun our data management unit. Today we looked collecting data and placing that data on a graph.

Students in grade one:

In order to pre-pare for our Ontario Writing assessment we began learning how to write a re-tell of a story. Students were asked to write about our day yesterday with the scientists in schools. They were told they must give detail in their sentences (for example: colours, names, feelings, things) in order to make their writing more interesting. They were given this layout

Yesterday I went to the science workshop (Topic sentence/Introduction)
First I
Then I
Next I
Then I
Finally I  (conclusion)

We are also briefly touching on paragraph writing and how you must have an introduction sentence, at least 3 detail sentences and a concluding sentence.

Students in grade two:

We continued to work on paragraph writing. We reviewed how you must have an introduction sentence (topic sentence), at least 3 detail sentences and a concluding sentence.
Students then completed paragraph writing exercises in their Ontario Writing Books.
